Call If You Need Me Won Digital Silver Award 33rd HKIFF 2009

James Lee’s Call if You Need Me won silver digital prize in the Asian Digital Competition at the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival. There are eight digital feature films from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and South Korea this year. The jury is formed by famous filmmakers Fruit Chan, Xie Fei, and also the German film festival programmer Erika Gregor. The awards were presented by actress Sandrine Pinna, and director Cheng Yu-Chieh of "Yang Yang" in the Hong Kong Cultural Center on the 31st April 2009.Jury's comment: For creating a harmonious blend of the gangster genre, the affections for one's native lands, and a clinical analysis of human nature; and for exercising digital technology in such a masterly manner. The film is a testimony to the strength of the Malaysian new wave.


The 4th Fresh Wave Short Film Competition Award Ceremony was held on the 29th March at the Hong Kong Science Museum. The juror's - Clare Stewart from Sydney Film Festival, Malaysian director James Lee and ifva director Teresa Kwong - were on hand to give the prizes to the award winning short films. Also present were Florence Hui, Acting Secretary for Home Affairs, director Johnnie To, Chairman of Film and Media Arts Group, Shaw Soo-wei, Executive Director of HKIFF Society and actor Lau Ching-wan.
